Boating Season winding down and Swallows on the River
What a great boating season! Sad that it's coming to an end this month, but we sure squeezed out as much as we could.

Sunset is when the swallows start swooping, but it gets pretty chilly when the sun goes down.
George is bundled up!
Mom and Dad look pretty comfortable; Mom brought a thermos of Bull Shots: vodka and beef bullion- Yummy!
First they start swooping...
Then they gather in a huge cloud and fly around together until they funnel into the phragmites. I tried to get a video of it; see below.

Here is a video of the swallow activity on the river earlier this month. Check out the Swallow Post from last year for more info and photos.

The Swallows on the CT River
Which means the swallows are beginning their nightly September ritual on the CT River. Thousands of swallows gather above Goose Island, just south of Essex on the other side of the river. They fly together around and around, diving and funneling together. Then, when the sun has set, they all suddenly begin to cascade down into the cattails for the night, until there isn't a single one left in the air.
We're going to get a front row seat.
Here they are! This is such an amazing thing to witness. It is undescribable, and the photos won't do it justice. Here are some videos, which show it a little better, but you really must see it in person.

George and Abby
I'd like to take this opportunity to inform you of George's recent career change. He has left landscaping to pursue his dream of modeling, which from the look of his first shoot he'll surely be successful.
Shleby and Patrick have decided to follow in his footsteps.
Which of course led to a mud ball fight.
