The Swallows on the CT River
It's sunset!
Which means the swallows are beginning their nightly September ritual on the CT River. Thousands of swallows gather above Goose Island, just south of Essex on the other side of the river. They fly together around and around, diving and funneling together. Then, when the sun has set, they all suddenly begin to cascade down into the cattails for the night, until there isn't a single one left in the air.
We're going to get a front row seat.
Here they are! This is such an amazing thing to witness. It is undescribable, and the photos won't do it justice. Here are some videos, which show it a little better, but you really must see it in person.

The Riverquest, $40 per person for the swallows tour. Ha!
